Mustad Combi-leather

Traditionally leather pads were used for many years as it was a material that was both readily available and natural.
However, the problem with standard leather pads is that they swell and soften with moisture and are easily compressed between the hoof and the shoe by the weight of the horse. This can cause premature failure of the nail clenches.
These problems are now a thing of the past. Combi Leather is made of a special leather that absorbs less than 2% water, which is then bonded to a polyurethane substrate that provides stability and strength to the leather as well as giving the pad optimum shock absorbing qualities. These pads are fitted leather side to the hoof.
