Having selected
the correct size shoe slip it onto the hoof to CHECK THE FIT.
For GLU shoes to
work properly they must be fitted so that the tabs lie flat against
the hoof wall. With the hoof weightbearing tap the shoe back so
that it is seated tight up against the front of the hoof. At this
point it MAY be necessary to seat the toe clip in order to have
the front tabs in contact with the hoof. Very little horn needs
to be removed as the clip is almost flush with the tabs.
TAKE CARE. If too
much horn is removed the clip will not locate firmly and will allow
the hoof to move forwards in the shoe.
PEEL the tabs outwards
one by one and check the gap between the base of the tab and the
hoof wall. SHAPE the shoe so that the base of ALL TABS are against
the hoof wall with no gaps.
Any gaps due to
a badly fitted GLU shoe or broken horn will allow the shoe to move
on the hoof and cause premature failure of the bond.
