Use the SANDPAPER
supplied to smooth out all rasp marks and any remaining irregularities
from the hoof wall. Unlike other glues, where a rough 'key' helps
the bond, the Mustad Mounting Glue wïii give a better bond when the
surface is perfectly smooth and unblemished by rasp marks.
The reason for this
is that the glue used will not fill or set in even the shallowest
depression (e.g. rasp mark) and as a result only bonds to the adjoining
level material. This means that extensive rasp marking will cut
the available bonding area by around 50% with a relative reduction
in bond strength.
To obtain a good
smooth surface put the sandpaper around a piece of flat wood or
a block. For the reasons given above, only sandpaper of the same
grade as that supplied should be used, otherwise deep scratching
will affect the bond. Be sure to sandpaper the hoof wall right back
to the heels.
