FILL
all areas where horn is missing with MUSTAD or SUPA HOOF FILLER. This
is an essential part of the hoof preparation and will probably only
be necessary the first time GLU shoes are fitted. Thereafter the horn
will grow stronger due to the lack of any nails.
MUSTAD or SUPA HOOF FILLER are the ideat materials for use with
GLU shoes because they are designed to have the same degree of flexibility
as natural horn and can be shaped easily with a rasp when set. Other
types of filler may be too hard and brittle for a naturally expanding
hoof.
When filled and rasped down, the hoof should have a perfect and
complete angle all round where the wall meets the solar surface
of the hoof. You will see later in section 6 why this is such an
important part of the fitting procedure and why a GLU shoe will
fail prematurely if this is not done correctly.
