REMOVAL AND RESETTING

REMOVAL AND RESETTING. Both EASY GLU and RACE GLU are made from the finest materials which have been selected for their optimum wear characteristics. As with conventional shoes and plates, wear will vary depending on use of horse and ground surface conditions. Prior to removal for hoof dressing, inspect GLU shoes to determine whether resetting is possible.

IF IT IS PROPOSED TO RESET THE SHOES, THE FOLLOWING REMOVAL PROCEDURE SHOULD BE DONE WITH CARE.

With a sharp farriers buffer lift the tip of a heel tab by tapping down with a hammer. When the buffer blade has started to lift the tab continue tapping it down until the whole tab is free from the hoof. The buffer will crack the glue and break the bond between tab and hoof.

If intending to reset a GLU shoe make sure that the buffer does not cut into the tab. Repeat on other tabs starting at the heels working forward.
To prepare a shoe for resetting ALL hardened glue MUST be removed from the tabs. Use a medium grade wet and dry sand paper designed for carbody repairs. To clean old glue off of tabs use with plenty of water. Alternatively, power files, emery stones or drill burrs can be used with care. Whatever method is used be sure to remove only the old glue and not thin the tabs, as this will weaken them in use.

Rasp or sandpaper ALL hardened glue from the hoof wall. When all glue has been removed from both the shoe and hoof, refit the shoe following exactly the fitting instructions (sections 1 - 12) above for fitting a new shoe.
