Because there
are no clenches to tighten it is essential that the hoof is hard down
onto the shoe. To achieve this have a helper lift the opposite foot
so that the horses weight is supported on the hoof to be glued.
START GLUEING from the heel tabs forward. ONLY put glue on the tab
being fitted.
PULL the tab outwards so that the entire inner surface is exposed.
Put a couple of drops of glue at the junction of the tab and hoof.
Then run a zig-zag line of glue up the tab.
PRESS the tab against the hoof and then, starting from the bottom,
move a thumb up the tab to spread the glue. If the correct amount
of glue has been applied the glue will spread to the edges without
oozing out.
Without moving the tab apply a constant pressure for about 10 seconds
over the whole area of the tab.
The glue tabs are designed to go almost Transparent when the glue
has bonded: Any translucent areas will indicate that the amount of
glue applied is insufficient to spread over the area of the whole
tab. In such cases the tab must be removed, see section 13, and then
reglued. Repeat the glueing procedure until all tabs are satisfactorily
glued.
The glue bond takes about 5 minutes to develop maximum strength. After
this time has elapsed the horse can be ridden and exercised as normal.

NEVER put glue on the hoof surface of the
shoe as this will prevent natural expansion of the hoof and make removaI
very difficuIt.
Mustad Mounting Glue sets quickly and makes a very strong bond. If
glue spills or gets on your hands do not touch your face or eyes.
In the event that an unprotected finger becomes stuck to a hoof do
not try to pull it off as this will tear the skin. As soon as you
realise that your finger is stuck, quickly break the bond by twisting
the finger.
Using TOO MUCH glue is expensive and wasteful. It will not increase
the bond strength. The strongest bond is achieved by using the minimum
amount of glue necessary to cover a tab.
KEEP GLUE AWAY FROM CHILDREN.
Do not allow anyone to play practical jokes with glue as this can
be dangerous. |
